Anadrol, also known as oxymethalone, is a steroid that is popular among bodybuilders for stimulating muscle growth and fat burning. However, this popularity is in spite of a number of very serious potential side effects and risks that are associated with its use, and the fact that the substance is illegal to use without prescription and banned by the IFBB.
Benefits of Anadrol
Of course for bodybuilders and athletes to continue using it, anadrol must have some pronounced and beneficial effects and this is indeed true.
Unlike other most steroids, anadrol has a low affinity for androgen receptor binding. Rather it works by increasing protein synthesis, thus enabling the body to make better use of amino acids in building muscle and encouraging growth and strength gains.
Unfortunately though, anadrol also comes with a number of serious side effects which make it a poor choice for any amateur or professional bodybuilder hoping to increase their strength and appearance.
Many of the side effects of anadrol are the same as those associated with excess testosterone. These include male pattern baldness (testosterone attacks sensitive hair follicles), acne, restlessness, aggression, paranoia and insomnia. For women these effects are even more severe and also include deepening of the voice, changes to the menstrual cycle, hair growth on the chin and chest, enlargement of the clitoris and changes to the sex drive.
On top of these effects anadrol can also increase the amount of estrogen in the body resulting in the risk of gynecomastia in men: the development of breasts. These side effects can be regulated to a degree through the use of selective estrogen receptor modulators such as tamoxifen, arimidex or clomifene. However this is a complex process which can lead to other problems and is not an exact science.
Long term use of anadrol can also introduce the risk of developing a number of sever conditions including hepatitis, liver cancer and cirrhosis. Those using anadrol for prolonged periods will often require regular liver function tests.
For all these reasons it is highly advised that bodybuilders not consider using anadrol in order to avoid these severe and various side effects. However there are fortunately a number of alternative strategies that they can use if they wish to increase their testosterone production, their protein synthesis, their muscle growth and their fat burning.
Supplements for instance can be highly effective in boosting desirable hormones. Testosterone boosting supplements include things like Testosterone Plus which works by providing the body with amino acids that naturally stimulate the testes to create more testosterone and also increase HGH production and vasodilation.
HGH supplements can similarly help the body to naturally go into a more anabolic state resulting in increased tissue building and fat burning.
In addition to these, there are a couple of alternative supplements that mimic anadrol with none of their side effects. For instant Anadrole from Crazy Bulk is a 100% legal steroid that can help you gain 10-15 pounds of lean muscle in just an eight week cycle. Yet another excellent supplement is Ana-GH from HGH.com. What makes it stand apart is it helps increase HGH levels too.
Likewise exercise and lifestyle changes can also enhance testosterone and growth hormone. High intensity sprinting is well known to increase growth hormone, while squats are great at encouraging an anabolic response. Eat lots of red meat, get plenty of sleep and introduce whole eggs to your diet – then there’s no reason to destroy your body with illegal drugs.
